Power-ups

Types of power-ups and how to manage them

What are Power-ups?

Power-ups add extra functionality to your concepts. It allows users more interactivity with the concept or other users. They are also customisable for each entity, not just for the entire concept. In this guide we will learn how to enable, disable and edit power-ups, as well as what each available power-up can do.

Using Power-ups

User lists are created within the Admin Dashboard, which is accessed by selecting Admin Dashboard in the admin panel.

Locating Power-ups

Power-ups can be enabled in a concepts settings page within the admin dashboard. You can find this by doing the following:

  • 1. Go to the Admin dashboard.
  • 2. Go to Concepts.
  • 3. Next to each concept is a pencil icon, click on the one for the concept you would like to enable/disable a power-up for. At the top of the page, select the Power-ups tab.

You will now see all the power-ups available to you.

Enabling/Power-ups

Enabling

To enable a power-up, click on the Enable button in the bottom left corner of the power-up block.

You can confirm it’s enabled by the fact that the box turns green with a check in the bottom right hand corner. There is no save button you need to press.

Disabling

To disable a power-up, simply press the Disable button in the bottom left corner of the power-up block:

You can confirm it’s disabled by the fact that the check icon disappears and the box goes white again. There is no save button you need to press.

Editing a Power-up

Power-ups are edited at the entity level as each entity can have its own unique version of each enabled power-up. You can find these settings by going to the entity you wish to use a power-up on.

  • 1. Go to Concepts, choose the concept your entity is located in and then choose your entity from the right hand list.
  • 2. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the power-ups section.

Every enabled power-up for this concept will be listed here. To edit a certain one, simply click on it to expand its settings.

Available Power-ups

This is a nice and straightforward power-up that simply lets you add contact information of the admin/team that will manage that entity. Once entered it will appear on the overview block of that entity’s layout.

The membership power-up allows users to join and become a member of an entity. Admin can control who can join and what type of role they will have once joined

Creating a Membership

When first opened, you will see the name of the memberships already created (if any) and a blue plus button. Press this button to create and open up a new membership. You will see several options you can fill out to customise the membership.

Membership name
The name of this particular membership, such as Member or Leader.

Users eligible to join
The user list that is allowed to apply for this membership. Users not on this list will not be able to see the join button for this membership option.

Member type list
The user will be added to the userlist that is set here once they have joined this membership and removed if they withdraw. You can use the plus Icon next to this field if you haven’t created the userlist yet.

Anyone on this list already will automatically be a part of this membership.

Request application form
The application form that the user will be asked to fill out when joining this particular membership.

Target list
In application forms, you can set a target list for the user to be added to when the form is completed. As we are using this in conjunction with membership power-up, this needs to be the same as the list set for the Member type list.

Colour picker
The colour picker block allows you to set a colour for the join card for this particular membership.

If the join card has dense mode set the colour of the join button will be this colour.

Membership tags
Tags are required in order for certain things to work with the membership, such as a member directory and membership permissions. We recommend setting the name of this tag as the same name of the membership, such as member, leader, mentor, mentee etc.

Custom headings
The next section is all about the wording on the button. The wording changes based on the user’s current membership status, so this allows you to configure the wording for each one. Leaving it blank will use the default wording.

Default – When the user hasn’t interacted with it yet

Applied – When the user has applied and is waiting to be accepted/rejected

Rejected – When the users application has been declined

Completed – When the user finishes their membership by leaving

Accepted – When the user application has been approved

Withdrawn – When the user withdraws from this membership before they have been accepted/rejected

Setting Membership Permissions

Once you save your newly set up Memberships, a table will appear. Each row is a page within this entity. Across the top is the various member types.

We want to check the pages we want each member type to have access to, as well as the landing page they go to when first opening the programme.

Not a Member
This column is the visibility for users who have yet to become a member

Member Type + Landing page
After the first column, the subsequent columns are grouped in pairs, the first being the name of the membership type and the pages they have access to. The second column is the landing page that member type will land on when loading up the programme.

Note: you will need to scroll to the right to see additional member types

Hitting Save all will save your membership permission changes. You can access these membership permissions again, if needed, further up the page (just above the icon uploader).

The connection power-up allows the users to apply and connect to one another. Like how a mentee applies to a mentor.

When this power-up is enabled and set up, the connection block (Apply to me) on a user’s profile will populate and allow them to apply to that user. This power-up works in conjunction with Connection services, which allows them to specify services to offer users who are applying to them. The Memberships power-up also needs to be set up before you can use connections.

Setting up connections

Click on the blue plus icon to create a new connection. Each connection is one way so to make a two way connection, two connections need to be made.

Name of connection
The name of the connection you are setting up between the follower and leader

Request member is known as
The is the name of the user that receives the requests, generically referred to as the Leader

Membership that receives requests
This is the user list that will be the one receiving the connection requests

Requesting member is known as
The is the name of the user that sends the requests, generically referred to as the Follower

Membership that sends requests
This is the user list that will be the one requesting the connection

Request application
The application form that will appear when the Follower tries to connect to the Leader

Target list
This is the user list the Follower and the Leader will be added to when they complete the request application. This list is set in the application itself.

Connection duration
How long the connection will stay open for (in days). Once the duration passes, the connection will finish automatically. Leave blank if you do not want connections to have durations

Connection services
Once the Connection services power-up is set up, you can enable/disable different services the Leader can offer, from this dropdown, to the mentee

Connection Request template
The email template that is sent to the Leader when a connection is requested

Connection Accepted template
The email template that is sent to the follower when the connection is accepted by the Leader

Connection Rejected template
The email template that is sent to the follower when the connection is rejected by the Leader

Connection Completed template
The email template that is sent to the follower and leader when connection has been completed

Connection services allow the leader to select, limit and expand on the services they provide to followers. This works exclusively with the Connections power-up. Services offered are customisable within each entity’s power-up settings.

Setting up and editing Connection services

To set up a new service, select the blue plus icon to open up a new service’s settings.

Select a currently existing service to view and edit its settings. Once a new service is opened, give it a name in the Service name field, and then fill in its settings explained below.

Action

Once two users are connected, the My Connections block will show their relationship along with the agreed services provided. The action setting allows you to set what action is performed when each of the active services are clicked on:

Send a message
When clicked this will open up the chat page with the other user in the relationship

Send an email
Once clicked it will automatically open up the users default email programs compose page with the other users email address entered

Schedule a date
When clicked this will open up a popup which will allow the user to select a date and time along with a custom message:

Once completed it will send it via the chat system:

The recipient can then either suggest an alternative date or confirm the chosen date by clicking on it and choosing Confirm dates. Once confirmed both parties will have the option to add it to their calendar of choice.

Duration

This is purely informational text for the leader when selecting their services. It allows you to set an expectation of how long this particular service will last.

Max mentees

To prevent leaders from being overwhelmed with requests, you can set the max amount of followers that can request this service. The leader can then adjust this from 1 to the number set here. Once this number has been reached, followers will not be able to select this service when requesting that leader until a space is freed again.

Assigning services to a connection

Once all of the services have been set up, they will need to be assigned to a connection in order to be used by the leader/follower. You can achieve this by doing the following:

  • 1. Open up the Connections power-up as well as the connection you would like to assign them to
  • 2. Select the Connection services dropdown and select the services you wish to assign. Click Save all once complete.

The join power-up allows users to quickly join a userlist with one click. This is useful for things such as events which will compile a list of users who are interested in the event. You can then use said user list to send communications.

To this use this power-up, you’ll need to do two things:

  • 1. Make sure the Quick Join block is present on the layout.
  • 2. Add a user list to the Join power-up in the entities power-up settings. You can use the blue plus icon to create a new user list if needed.

Done! You can now find anyone who has pressed this button on the selected user list within the User list section of the admin dashboard.

Favourites allows users to save programmes, events, jobs, resources and any other entity to their favourites page. This allows users quick access to the entities they care about, without having to find them in a concepts directory each time they load up the platform.

All you need to do is make sure this power-up is enabled on each concept you want this for, and that’s it! Heart icons will appear on either the result card or within the entities layout page:

You can also use the Favourite button block within the Block library to add it anywhere else on the layout. Just remember to remove this block if you are disabling these power-ups.
